TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The official GODZILLA STORE Taipei opened Friday (Sept. 26) at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (新光三越) Xinyi Place, a major shopping complex in Taiwan's capital. Great Sun Way Enterprise Ltd. (雙緯企業) and TOHO Entertainment Asia (東寶娛樂亞洲) launched the themed retail space featuring new merchandise including Hamtaro collaborations and "Chibi Godzilla" (小哥吉拉) series products. The store represents Japan's iconic monster franchise's first official retail presence in Taiwan.
TOHO representative Fabio Murayama expressed excitement during the opening ceremony, praising support from Great Sun Way and other partners for launching GODZILLA STORE Taipei. A typhoon delayed the arrival of a planned large Godzilla (2023) statue, preventing its display at the store's opening. The weather disruption affected the centerpiece attraction that was intended to anchor the store's inaugural presentation.
Store management installed a large standee as a temporary replacement, promising fans will see the actual statue's intricate details upon its arrival. The store scheduled Chibi Godzilla character appearances and fan interaction activities for opening day and the extended weekend.
