TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan faces a week of fluctuating weather conditions with an intensifying northeast monsoon bringing rain and temperature drops, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), Taiwan's national weather bureau, forecast Monday (Dec. 1). The northeast monsoon coupled with moisture from South China will bring intermittent rain to windward areas. Scattered showers are expected in central and southern regions.
The CWA noted the northeast monsoon is expected to intensify Wednesday (Dec. 3), resulting in a noticeable temperature drop across the island. The administration reported a chance of sporadic snowfall on mountains above 3,500 meters (11,483 feet) in central and northern regions. Tuesday will see a slight reduction in moisture, though brief showers will persist in areas north of Taoyuan and the eastern half of the island.
The weather pattern will cause significant rainfall in the north and east Wednesday (Dec. 3), with daytime temperatures in northern Taiwan dropping below 20 degrees Celsius (68°F). Temperatures could dip to 15 or 16 degrees Celsius (59-61°F) by Thursday (Dec. 4) morning before gradually warming. Strong gusts will affect the Hengchun (恆春) Peninsula, while coastal winds from Taoyuan to Tainan will strengthen Monday night through Tuesday (Dec. 2). ◼
