TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Power Company (台電) reported Tuesday (Dec. 2) that an internal equipment anomaly at Songshan Airport (松山機場) caused Monday's power outage that disrupted operations and affected 4,698 users in Zhongshan District (中山區), downtown Taipei. The incident occurred at 1:36 p.m. Monday and caused a feeder trip. The outage triggered conflicting accounts between the airport and power company regarding responsibility for the disruption.
The state-owned electricity utility clarified its investigation revealed no equipment malfunction on its part. Songshan Airport denied any internal equipment issues, leading to conflicting accounts of the outage cause. Taiwan Power Company personnel discovered both regular and backup fuses at the airport had blown upon arrival, attributing the fuse blowout to a user-end factor. The dispute centers on whether airport equipment or external factors caused the disruption affecting nearly 5,000 customers.
Taiwan Power Company assisted in replacing the fuses and disconnecting switches within the airport's equipment, successfully restoring power to Songshan Airport and the affected 4,698 customers in Zhongshan District. The airport's electrical manager suspected an anomaly with internal equipment cables as the root cause of the blown fuses. Taiwan Power Company offered to send personnel to further inspect the internal equipment if the airport requires additional technical assistance to prevent future outages. The outage resolution took approximately two hours from the initial 1:36 p.m. disruption on Monday. ◼
