TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists forecasted a shift to wet and cold weather in northern and northeastern Taiwan as the northeast monsoon moves southward on Tuesday (Dec. 2). The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported that this change will bring noticeable temperature drops and potential snowfall in mountainous regions.

WeatherRisk Explore Inc. (天氣風險公司) senior consultant Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) noted Wednesday (Dec. 3) to Thursday (Dec. 4) as the period of most significant cold air impact. Areas south of Miaoli may experience temperatures as low as 14 degrees Celsius. Wu stated that northern areas, such as Taoyuan, and eastern windward regions may experience brief, localized rain on Tuesday, while other areas will remain mostly cloudy to clear, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 21 degrees Celsius.

The northeast monsoon is expected to intensify after nightfall, bringing wet and cold weather to northern and northeastern Taiwan from Tuesday to Wednesday. Wu advised that the cold air's most pronounced effects will occur from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, with reduced moisture in the environment except for showers along the north coast and eastern areas.

WeatherRisk analyst Hsueh Hao-tien (薛皓天) added that the cold air is expected to weaken over the weekend, allowing temperatures to rise to 23 to 28 degrees Celsius across Taiwan. However, another northeast monsoon is expected to strengthen on Dec. 8, bringing a drop in temperatures and a shift to rainy weather.
