TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Sherman Lin (林修銘), chairman of the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (台灣證券交易所), led six Taiwanese investment companies to Japan on Wednesday (Dec. 10). The delegation engaged with the Tokyo Stock Exchange and several asset management institutions to announce the strong performance of the Taiwan-Japan cross-border ETF collaboration, which began in September.

Lin emphasized that the inaugural cross-border ETF initiative signifies an upgraded financial and industrial connection between Taiwan and Japan, particularly in the semiconductor sector.
Since the launch, Taiwan-listed cross-border ETFs have grown by 89% as of Nov. 30, while two ETFs in the Japanese market have surged by 410% and 522%, respectively.

Lin noted that the success of cross-border ETFs supports Taiwan's "Asian Asset Management Center" policy by achieving the goal of diversifying development products. The Taiwan Stock Exchange invited six Taiwanese investment firms, including Capital Securities Corporation (群益), Cathay Financial Holdings (國泰), and Yuanta Securities Investment Trust Co., Ltd (元大), to lay the groundwork for future ETF types.

Hu Tse-hua (胡則華), CEO of the Asian Asset Management Center (AAMC) Promotion Office (亞洲資產管理中心推動辦公室), highlighted the steady rise in the number and scale of ETF products since the first ETF launched in Taiwan in 2003, reaching $236 billion by Nov. 30.
Hu also mentioned that Taiwan has two ETFs listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, totaling $15.7 million.

Liu Tsung-sheng (劉宗聖), chairman of Yuanta Securities Investment Trust Co., Ltd, noted that Taiwan's ETF investors have surpassed 16 million, making ETFs one of Taiwan's most popular investment tools.
Chang Yung-chuan (張雍川), general manager of Cathay Securities Investment Trust Co., Ltd, stated that the cross-border listings deepen bilateral capital market exchanges, benefiting investors, issuers, and exchanges in both markets.
