TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Ladies Professional Golf Association (TLPGA, 台灣女子職業高爾夫協會) and the Japan Women's Professional Golf Association (JLPGA, 日本女子職業高爾夫協會) announced on Wednesday (Jan. 14) that the 2026 Taiwan Foxconn Ladies Golf Tournament has received JLPGA certification, marking it as an official tour event. This significant development marked the return of an official JLPGA tour event to Taiwan after a 48-year absence.
The 2026 Taiwan Foxconn Ladies Golf Tournament is scheduled from March 12 to 15 at the Orient Golf and Country Club (東方高爾夫俱樂部) in Taoyuan. It stands as the only overseas event for the 2026 season, offering a total prize of US$2 million. This makes it the second-highest prize money event on the JLPGA tour for the year, drawing top Japanese players to compete.
The JLPGA vice president, Takako Matsuo (松尾貴子), traveled from Japan to Taiwan for the announcement. She invited Japanese golfer Kawamoto Yui (河本結) and Taiwan's rising star Wu Chia-yen (吳佳晏) to the press conference. The two players participated in writing spring couplets, embracing Taiwan's vibrant cultural heritage.
Kawamoto expressed her excitement about her first visit to Taiwan, stating she felt the warmth and enthusiasm of the people. She also stated that she hopes the competition will help fans experience the vitality of women's golf.
