TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front dropped temperatures to minus 1 degree Celsius (30.2°F) at Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area (太平山國家森林遊樂區) early Monday (Feb. 9). Rime ice formed on trees across the mountain, though snow and sleet did not fall. Frost covered the plaza in front of Taipingshan Villa, while white mist rose from the valleys and drifted along the ridges.
The Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area Management Center (太平山國家森林遊樂區管理中心) confirmed roads within the park have not iced over, allowing vehicles to travel without snow chains. The park opened at 7:30 a.m. Monday and closes at 8 p.m. The Bong Bong Train (蹦蹦車), a popular narrow-gauge heritage railway, began its first run at 7:30 a.m., operates hourly, and runs its final departure at 2:30 p.m.
The center cautioned visitors about rapidly changing mountain weather, advising them to monitor the latest park updates and any control measures that may be implemented. Officials urged tourists to prepare warm clothing and prioritize safety while driving and exploring the mountainous area. Visitors should check official channels for real-time information before traveling to the recreation area. ◼
