TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復), the Penghu County Magistrate, suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage after an accident at a performance hall last Thursday (Feb. 19). Chen, who experienced arrhythmia and impaired vision, fell and hit his head, leading to a coma. Medical teams rushed him to the hospital, where they are now stabilizing his condition.

Family members shared on Facebook on Sunday (Feb. 22) that Chen has shown signs of improvement. They said, "These days, we have been whispering words of love to him, and he opened his eyes, with his pupils responding." His coma scale has progressed from 3 to 6 since his admission. This development offers a glimmer of hope to his supporters and loved ones.

After suffering a severe fall, Chen was initially transported to the Penghu Branch of the Tri-Service General Hospital for treatment. At one point, he had no pulse or breathing. Fortunately, resuscitation efforts restored his heartbeat. However, due to an intracranial hemorrhage requiring surgery, he was airlifted by helicopter to Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital for further care.

The family received a video from members of the Magong Presbyterian Church (馬公長老教會) earlier Sunday. Church members recorded a hymn, "I Will Look Up to the Lord," as a heartfelt prayer for Chen. The family described this gesture as a true reflection of Chen's spirit and resilience during this challenging time.

Doctors are diligently working to manage Chen's thrombosis, noting a daily decrease in related indices. They have also increased his nutritional intake, with medical assessments confirming his heart, liver, and kidney functions remain healthy. The medical team emphasized Chen's strong physical foundation as a positive factor in his recovery.

While Chen's lungs have some fluid accumulation due to the emergency procedures, doctors assure that it is within manageable limits. They continue to monitor his condition closely, acknowledging the critical observation period. Despite the challenges, they are cautiously optimistic about each stable step forward.
