TAIPEI (TVBS NEWS) The most common struggle seen when using a speech recognition system is the machine not being able to identify what is being said. Through continuous optimization, these systems can achieve a higher recognition rate. Such an AI tool can make learning the Chinese, English, and Taiwanese Hokkien languages easier.

"The user's voice is converted into phonetic codes, and then, according to the logic of the language, switched into the Taiwanese Chinese characters promoted by the Ministry of Education. This has the advantage of preserving the correspondence between the voice and the text," Peng Chih-jin, manager of an AI platform, said

.
The intonation of Taiwanese Hokkien is complex, but the AI speech recognition system is becoming increasingly more accurate, as the users' voice input samples increase. This system can detect the intonations of the Taiwanese Hokkien, and with commonly used words in the Taiwanese Hokkien dictionary incorporated into the system, it is used in line with the current elementary school curriculum.

Huang Lee-ru, marketing specialist of an AI platform said: "Throughout the learning process, teachers can first put the students into different levels according to their Taiwanese Hokkien language skills. And through voice recording, the teachers can give them immediate feedback, and achieve differentiated teaching."

Starting in August this year, a number of middle schools and high schools in the nation have also started incorporating the system into their curriculum. And the system has an identification accuracy of 85%, providing students with the assistance they need to strengthen their Taiwanese Hokkien skills.
