KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung's Shoushan, also known as "Monkey Mountain," is known for its Formosan rock macaques, which often walk side-by-side with visiting tourists.

However, sometimes they could get a little too close for comfort. A bold monkey was recently caught on camera jumping onto a female tourist carrying an ice cream cone with a small child.

With its sights set on the tasty treat, the monkey could not resist temptation, eliciting screams from the woman as she tried to escape.

Fortunately, she quickly tossed the ice cream onto the ground, successfully diverting the monkey, which quickly satiated its hunger with the snack.

Numerous incidents have occurred in recent years, and a National Natural Park guide stated that the best thing to do in these circumstances is to find a tree to stand next to.

Lin Yu-ju explained that when monkeys cling to you, crouching down is not the best course of action as it feels like an earthquake to the animal, which could make it hold on tighter.

"Move slowly toward a tree," Lin said.

"Under the premise that you've tossed your things and your hands are free, the tree will definitely be more attractive to them."

With more than 1,500 monkeys currently estimated to be living in Shoushan, tourists need to be aware of how to protect themselves before visiting the wild animals.
