TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) plans to add 21 weekly train services, with 11 heading south and 10 going north starting on Jan. 3, 2024.

According to the expansion plan, the high-speed rail will offer a total of 1,060 weekly train services for passengers, who will be able to purchase tickets starting from midnight on Dec. 6, as part of the pre-sale schedule.

The service enhancement is particularly aimed at improving the traveling experience for passengers north of Taichung, especially during peak commute hours and tourist seasons. THSRC has scheduled Nangang to Taichung trains that include eight carriages with non-reserved seating.

The additional train services are primarily targeted at strengthening long-haul travel for business commuters during weekdays.

Earlier this year, THSRC executed two "regular service increase" plans in July and October, raising the fixed weekly services from 1,016 to 1,025 and then further to 1,039.

Moreover, a "short-term service increase" plan was implemented in November and December, demonstrating THSRC's continuous effort to meet passenger demand through capacity enhancement.

The corporation intends to monitor the outcomes of this short-term increase to guide future adjustments in long-term service offerings.

This initiative reflects THSRC's commitment to adapting its services to the evolving travel patterns and needs of the public, aiming for greater convenience and efficiency for its users.
