TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim on Tuesday (Dec. 4) highlighted the government's efforts in addressing challenges faced by youths with various policies. This statement came as a response to Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidate Ko Wen-je's recent criticism.

Ko criticized the government's education subsidies a day earlier, labeling them short-sighted and lacking in long-term vision. He projected that a shrinking youth population would lead to the closure of 40 universities in the next decade.

Hsiao, in a media briefing, countered Ko's assertions, emphasizing the DPP's commitment to easing youth difficulties, including education costs, employment, and housing affordability.

She acknowledged that these challenges are not unique to Taiwan but are part of a global context requiring comprehensive approaches.

Hsiao cited the current subsidy programs as a testament to a strong national fiscal framework and the global success of local industries.

She argued for the effective distribution of wealth generated from new economic growth through policy interventions. Hsiao reaffirmed the government's dedication to developing policies aimed at reducing financial burdens on young people.
