TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A new poll released Saturday (Dec. 9) by My Formosa showed that support for the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) Lai-Hsiao ticket has decreased to 37.8%, with the Kuomintang's (KMT) Hou-Jaw ticket close behind at 32.6%. Meanwhile, the Taiwan People's Party's (TPP) Ko-Wu ticket's support has risen to 17.3%.

The poll extension from a previous survey highlights the public's growing concern over Lai Ching-te's illegal building in his hometown and potential tax evasion issues. Lai has addressed these allegations in public and during TV interviews.

In contrast, KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih's introduction of a housing policy to eliminate down payments for young homebuyers has sparked considerable social debate.

This latest round of polling, conducted from Dec. 6 to 8, is part of an extended series of surveys that track public opinion across several months, from July 17, 2023, to Jan. 12, 2024, with each poll wave occurring every three days.

The sampling process utilized landline numbers from Chunghwa Telecom's residential phonebook, implementing stratified random sampling matched by proportional allocation, and incorporated a technique to randomly substitute the last two digits to avoid excluding unregistered numbers.

This poll reached 1,201 respondents, achieving a 95% confidence level with a margin of error of ±2.8%.
