HUALIEN (TVBS News) — Yuli Mazu Temple in Hualien celebrated its 119th anniversary with a unique performance: a performer in a two-meter-tall gorilla costume captivated the audience with a lively dance during a folk parade.

The performance, hailing from Fuli Yisheng Temple, featured nimble, vivacious moves and concluded with a respectful bow, bringing amusement to the congregation.

Despite the sweltering heat, the performer executed an elaborate routine with spins and somersaults, entertaining the crowd.

Chang Chan-jung, chairman of Yuli Mazu Temple, remarked on the innovative nature of the performance, a first for the Hualien southern district, and its enthusiastic reception.

Devotees expressed their joy and surprise at the unexpected act. "It's the first time we've seen such an act in our parade. It's quite rare to have such a performance, and the gorilla was really cute. It's really a pleasant surprise for us," a temple member said.

The performer, known for their energetic dancing in high temperatures, has gained popularity across Taiwan, often becoming the highlight at various temple fairs and activities.
