TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai reached out through social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday (Dec. 19) to convey her condolences following a devastating earthquake in China's Gansu province on Monday (Dec. 18).

President Tsai posted: "We pray that all those affected receive the aid they need, and we hope for a swift recovery. Taiwan stands ready to offer assistance in the disaster response effort."

The magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck late Monday night, resulting in at least 111 deaths, 236 injuries, and significant property damage. In response, Tsai has tasked the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and the Mainland Affairs Office (MAO) to express Taiwan's willingness to offer aid.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Olivia Lin also conveyed President Tsai Ing-wen's concerns and condolences earlier that day and expressed Taiwan's readiness to provide necessary assistance to China.
