TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Amid ongoing tensions between Chunghwa Express (CHEX) management and its unionized workers, CHEX Chairman Hsueh Men-chien announced on Wednesday (Dec. 20) a board meeting for next Thursday to address the contentious issue of performance bonuses while maintaining that further strikes are unlikely.

The CHEX employees' union, which has been organizing industrial actions since last July and again in January of this year over wage and bonus disputes, has been in collective bargaining negotiations for over a year without reaching a consensus.

The union contends that negotiations initiated in February to secure a collective agreement protecting labor conditions have seen no progress, with the government making no headway on the matter.

Following a November press conference, the union claims to have received no favorable response from the company and has conducted strike briefings in various locations, including Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung.

The union is preparing for a strike vote and potential actions, not ruling out a strike as early as the beginning of next year.

At the same time, the union is urging the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government to address the issues seriously and not overlook the concerns of grassroots workers.
