TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an's approval rating has leaped from 39% to 65%, according to Taipei City Government's Research, Development, and Evaluation Commission data.

Coinciding with his first anniversary in office on Monday (Dec. 25), Chiang held an annual press conference at the Taipei Dome to discuss his visions for the future — Taipei as a city of safety, a hub of sports and a beacon of the future.

Reflecting on the past year, Chiang recalled the challenge of responding to the collapse of a residential building in Dazhi in September. He credited the swift and coordinated efforts of police, fire, and municipal staff rescuing and rehousing residents.

In another notable achievement, births in Taipei reached a 28-month high in October 2023, with 1,645 newborns. The birth rate also surpassed the death rate for the first time in 22 consecutive months.

A significant milestone for the city government was the successful completion and operation of the Taipei Dome, a feat Chiang lauded as a shared triumph for all citizens. The opening of the long-anticipated dome means it can now host large-scale events.

When asked about his performance rating, Chiang humbly declined to score himself, saying the final judgment lies in the hands of the citizens.

Looking ahead, Chiang expressed his hope to lead the 'Taipei Team' with full strength in the next three years, aiming to give residents a chance to experience a different city.
