TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Finance reported on Tuesday (Dec. 26) that 664,000 Taiwanese taxpayers received disability deductions in 2021, and 354,000 received long-term care deductions as per the "Income Tax Act" rules.

The deductions amounted to NT$137.4 billion for disability and NT$42.5 billion for long-term care, according to the ministry.

The number of households benefiting from disability deductions exceeded 600,000 since 2014, reaching 635,000 in 2021. An income tax reform in 2018 raised the disability deduction to NT$200,000, resulting in consistent deductions of roughly NT$138 billion each year.

Long-term care deductions allowed each person to deduct up to NT$120,000 starting from 2019. In 2021, NT$42.5 billion was deducted, benefiting 330,000 households, or 5.1% of total reporting households.

Over the past five years, 664,000 to 698,000 individuals benefited from disability deductions, representing 55.2% to 59.6% of all disabled Taiwanese.

The number of people benefiting from long-term care deductions has increased annually, reaching 354,000 in 2021. Beneficiaries of the long-term care 2.0 service also increased by nearly 40% since 2019, indicating enhanced long-term care service capabilities.
