TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Finance National Property Administration, part of the Ministry of Finance, clarified on Tuesday (Dec. 26) that Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's permanent residence was never illegally transferred from public to private ownership.

Earlier that day, the government agency issued a statement based on land registry data confirming that the property has consistently been privately owned, with no record of it being expropriated from state ownership.

These clarifications followed accusations made by former legislator Chiu Yi and media professional Mao Chia-chin, who claimed a day earlier at the Taipei District Prosecutors Office that Lai had unlawfully transferred state-owned land to his name in New Taipei's Wanli district, alleging potential illegality and corruption for personal gain.

The Finance National Property Administration emphasized that the land in Lai's possession has been privately owned since 1940, with no records of it ever being state-owned or transferred from state ownership.
