TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) holds a critical rally on Taipei's Ketagalan Boulevard, with high stakes as the election is seen as a choice between war and peace.

The opposition, Kuomintang (KMT), warns of escalated tensions with China, while DPP supporters emphasize safeguarding Taiwan's sovereignty. Presidential candidates Lai Ching-te and Hsiao Bi-khim express determination to protect Taiwan's democracy.

With the Lai-Hsiao ticket leading in polls, the entry of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) adds unpredictability.

The DPP faces scrutiny over domestic issues, including the cost of living and corruption allegations. Rising tensions with China and an air raid alert further complicate cross-strait relations.

Die-hard DPP supporters are visible, and the question remains whether Lai Ching-te can maintain momentum. Anticipation is palpable as supporters await election results on Saturday. Stay tuned to TVBS for updates.
