NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Just three days before Taiwan's general elections, the KMT presidential and vice presidential candidates, Hou Yu-Ih and Jaw Shaw-kong, shared their election strategy during an international press conference.

Peace and Communication, Opposition to Independence and "One Country, Two Systems"

Hou Yu-Ih emphasized the importance of pursuing peace and avoiding war, asserting that Taiwan's future should be decided by its 23 million people. He committed to taking a middle path, advocating dialogue and communication with China to minimize risks.

Hou Yu-Ih aligned his stance with the U.S., opposing Taiwan's independence and the "one country, two systems" approach. He stressed Taiwan's ability to stand on its own feet and called for dialogues, exchanges with the outside world, and strengthening national defense to mitigate risks.

Jaw Shaw-kong, KMT's vice presidential candidate, discussed his return to the party after 30 years. He explained that he rejoined the KMT in 2021 to revamp the party and address the need for substantial changes.

Balancing Defense and Communication, Economic Challenges Addressed

Jaw Shaw-kong highlighted the importance of communication and exchange while maintaining a strong democratic system and national defense. He acknowledged the challenges posed by China's significant defense budget and emphasized the need for both deterrence and open communication.

In the context of challenging economic conditions, the KMT candidates unveiled their strategy to enhance global trade and tackle low salaries, inflation, labor shortages, and demographic issues. They expressed confidence that their vision would lead to a resilient and prosperous Taiwan, appealing to voters' expectations.
