TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an called on the central government Monday (March 25) to empathize with the public and small businesses grappling with the pressure of rising electricity prices.

The electricity price review committee has decided to increase electricity prices from April, with an average increase of about 11%.

The price hike has reportedly prompted some landlords to raise rents or electricity charges, causing concern among young homeowners about the impact on their quality of life.

Chiang believes the increase in electricity prices has affected local governments, ordinary people, and various businesses, and the central government should understand and listen to the public's troubles to help mitigate the impact of the price hike.

As for Metro Taipei, Chiang said he will continue to reflect to the central government the impact of the electricity price increase on the metro and strive for related subsidies. The city government will also work hard to increase revenue and reduce expenditure, hoping to alleviate this heavy burden through various means.
