TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Vice President and President-elect Lai Ching-te visited the headquarters of Quanta on Tuesday (March 26), holding a closed-door meeting with Chairman Barry Lam to discuss the company's AI and 5G applications.

Lai's visit is part of his ongoing industry exchange tour, which includes stops at semiconductor and drone businesses. The third stop focused on AI opportunities, with Lai visiting the Hwa Ya Technology Park in Taoyuan and holding a roundtable discussion with more than 20 ICT industry representatives.

The discussion included representatives from more than 20 companies spanning various fields, including information brands and system assembly, panels, networking, and circuit boards. High-profile attendees included Tung Tzu-hsien, chairman of Pegatron Corp, and Jason Chen, chairman of Acer Inc.

Lai's relationship with Quanta and Hwa Ya Technology dates back to 2017 when, as premier, he actively addressed the "five shortages" problem, amended the Statute for Industrial Innovation, and promoted the "Three Major Plans for Investing in Taiwan." Quanta was among the first batch of Taiwanese businesses to return home amid the U.S.-China trade war.

Quanta publicly announced its return to Taiwan and the establishment of a factory in 2018, purchasing a factory in the Hwa Ya Technology Park in Linkou and expanding its high-end server production line in Taiwan. The electronics industry constitutes 75% of the initial wave of Taiwanese businesses returning to Taiwan, thereby spurring new investments in the upstream component supply chain.

Taiwan's ICT industry successfully avoided the Chinese trade dilemma and secured a global position. Quanta's early return to Taiwan ensured a surge in business opportunities during the pandemic and became a key player in seizing AI opportunities. The company's stock price reflects the critical decisions made by Lai during his tenure as premier, providing a significant advantage for Taiwan in securing orders.
