TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) spokesperson Chen Binhua said Wednesday (March 27) that the dispute between Wang Xiaofei and Barbie Hsu will not affect cross-strait relations. He expressed hope that those involved in failed marriages could part on good terms.

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu announced her divorce from Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei in 2021. Still, the two have recently been in the media spotlight due to domestic issues. Some online users have criticized Wang for "maliciously intensifying cross-strait contradictions," calling on the TAO to take measures.

In response to the controversy, Chen, at a press conference, joked, "I know Wang Xiaofei personally, and I hope my answer won't capsize our friendship."

Chen stated that there are approximately 400,000 cross-strait marriages, and the disputes between Wang and Hsu will not affect cross-strait relations.

"The two sides of the strait are one family, and we hope those destined can grow old together," Chen said. "For the few failed marriages, we hope the parties involved can part on good terms."
