TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Spokesperson Jeff Liu emphasized on Tuesday (April 2), the respect for the independent operation mechanism of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD), according to its organizational charter.

The TFD had reported to the MOFA on the afternoon of March 28, recommending a joint meeting of the foundation's board members and supervisors as soon as possible. The meeting would address the election of the chairman, the list of directors and supervisors for the eighth term, and the final accounts.

MOFA ultimately decided to hold the meeting on the afternoon of April 10 and explained the decision to Han Kuo-yu's office, the ministry said.

Liu confirmed that meeting notifications and related materials have been sent to all members of the board.

However, TFD claimed that the meeting was arranged after receiving no reply from Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu.

KMT Legislator Wang Hong-wei criticized the move as an attempt to block Han and called for a secret meeting.

In a press briefing, Liu responded to media inquiries, reiterating the MOFA's respect for the TFD's independent operation mechanism and confirming that meeting notifications and related materials have been sent to all directors.
