TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Friday (April 19) welcomed a joint statement by Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The statement was issued following a meeting between the two leaders in Manila.

MOFA expressed its gratitude to the high-level officials of the Philippines and New Zealand for their continued public emphasis on maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The ministry pointed out that China's military intimidation and gray-zone coercion in the region pose a serious challenge to regional security, drawing high concern from the international community.

The government is pleased to see countries paying attention to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and welcomes actions to ensure peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, the ministry said.

MOFA said it will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with countries like the Philippines and New Zealand that share similar principles. The aim is to jointly defend the rule-based international order and promote regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
