TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foxconn Technology Group announced on Wednesday (April 24) that its net-zero goal has been approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), making it the third high-tech hardware industry and the seventh company in Taiwan to receive this certification.

Foxconn's near-term goal was approved by SBTi in 2023, and its net-zero goal was also approved in April 2021. The company plans to announce this on May 9.

The group supports the Paris Agreement and has set a goal to limit global temperature rise to within 1.5˚C. In 2020, the group proposed a goal to achieve net zero emissions across its value chain by 2050, one of its three major climate goals.

Hung Jung-chung, Foxconn's chief environmental protection officer, said the group adheres to a "green intelligence, circular economy" environmental development strategy.

He believes obtaining SBTi approval is an important milestone towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

SBTi approved Foxconn's Net Zero goal, which includes overall and near-term goals. The overall goal is Foxconn's commitment to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.

The near-term goal is Foxconn's commitment to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions in Scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 42% by 2030, based on 2020 levels.
