BANGKOK (TVBS News) — In a surprising turn of events, the Thai government announced on Sunday (April 28) that Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara has stepped down following his removal from the deputy prime minister role in a recent Cabinet reshuffle.

Parnpree's departure leaves a significant void in the Foreign Ministry, particularly in the Myanmar affairs team, which Parnpree was leading, and his humanitarian initiative aimed at facilitating dialogue in Myanmar.

Despite his sudden vacancy, the government assured that the Foreign Ministry's operations would continue seamlessly, with the permanent secretary and other officials stepping in to ensure the continuity of foreign affairs.

Parnpree's tenure as foreign minister was marked by notable achievements, including playing a pivotal role in the release of Thai hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. His efforts have been widely recognized as significant contributions to international diplomacy.

However, the Cabinet reshuffle, endorsed by Thailand's king and published in the Royal Gazette, saw Parnpree removed from his additional role as deputy prime minister, a move that took Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and many others by surprise.

In his resignation letter, published by local media, Parnpree, a former trade representative, reflected on his tenure, stating, "My removal from the deputy prime minister position is not a reflection of my performance." He emphasized his positive contributions to Thailand's international image, suggesting his departure was not due to a lack of achievement.
