TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kansai Airport in Japan has been named the best airport for baggage handling in the 2024 Skytrax airline service survey. The airport has maintained a record of zero lost luggage since its operations in 1994.

According to Skytrax, the top three airports for baggage handling are Kansai Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, and Bahrain International Airport. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport ranked eighth.

The baggage handling process at Kansai Airport includes sorting luggage in the sorting room after the plane lands, placing it on the conveyor belt in the order of luggage tags, and checking each piece to ensure no luggage is left in the transport box. This process is completed within 12 minutes of the plane landing.

Data from SITA, a Swiss aviation systems developer, shows that in 2022, an average of 7.6 pieces of luggage were lost per 1,000 passengers worldwide.

In its 30 years of operation, Kansai Airport has not lost any luggage due to airport operations. In 2023, it handled about 10 million pieces of luggage, maintaining its record of zero lost luggage.
