TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed gratitude Tuesday (April 30) for a US$150,000 donation from the Czech Republic to aid in the reconstruction efforts in Hualien following a devastating earthquake.

MOFA highlighted the shared values and cooperation between Taiwan and the Czech Republic, describing them as partners contributing to the international community.

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the donation on Monday evening local time, pledging to assist in the rebuilding efforts in Hualien. This gesture follows expressions of condolences from Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil, and President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament Markéta Pekarová Adamová, among other officials, in the immediate aftermath of the Hualien earthquake.

The Taiwanese ministry emphasized that Taiwan and the Czech Republic are not only allies with similar ideals but also partners who mutually contribute to the international community. The Czech Republic has consistently stood with Taiwan in times of challenge. During the pandemic in 2021, Taiwan donated 1.35 million medical masks and other supplies to the Czech Republic, which in turn donated 30,000 vaccine doses to Taiwan.

The ministry stated that Taiwan, building on its solid foundation, will continue to deepen exchanges with the Czech Republic, expanding substantial partnership relations through mutually beneficial cooperation.
