NEW YORK (TVBS News) — Over a hundred Taiwanese living and working in New York gathered at Times Square on Tuesday (June 4) evening to support Taiwan's democracy, freedom, and equality as part of the Bluebird Movement (青鳥行動). This event marked a significant moment for Taiwanese expatriates, showcasing their solidarity and commitment to their homeland's values on a global stage.

Global Support for Taiwan

The Overseas Bluebird Support Group (海外青鳥公媽應援團), composed of global Taiwanese expatriates, played a 30-second animated video on the large billboards of Times Square starting from the early hours of June 4, Eastern Time. This initiative aimed to spread the spirit of Taiwan to travelers from around the world. Times Square, one of the most attractive landmarks in the U.S., draws over 50 million visitors annually, including major media outlets like American Broadcasting Company (ABC) and CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System), which have studios nearby for live broadcasts.

A Decentralized Movement

The event, which began at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on June 4, saw participants holding slogans such as "I'm in New York, I oppose parliamentary abuse" and "TAIWAN GO." It emphasized spontaneity and decentralization. Many supporters and tourists took the opportunity to take photos with the animated advertisement, which aired every five minutes. Besides the physical gathering at Times Square, the event also attracted significant online participation, with many online users joining in and commenting on live streams.

This gathering not only demonstrated the unity and strength of the Taiwanese community abroad but also highlighted the global resonance of Taiwan's quest for democracy and freedom. As the world watched, the Bluebird Movement's message of hope and resilience echoed far beyond Times Square, inspiring conversations about Taiwan's democratic values and the importance of global support.
