TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (中央氣象署) announced plans to issue a land warning for Typhoon Gaemi at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday (July 23). The initial alert will primarily cover Yilan County, Hualien County, and Taitung County.

Typhoon Gaemi adjusted its path slightly southward around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, inching closer to Taiwan. This change in trajectory prompted the CWA to predict heavy torrential rain across almost the entire island over the next few days.

CWA forecaster Liu Yu-chi (劉宇其) highlighted that the most significant impact will occur from Wednesday (July 24) evening through Thursday (July 25). Liu mentioned that the affected areas will include the western half of Taiwan, Yilan County, Hualien County, and the northern regions.

Liu further explained that the typhoon would bring severe wind and rain. He stated that whether a work and class suspension will be declared depends on the wind and rain conditions at that time.

Residents should stay updated on weather forecasts and prepare for possible severe weather conditions.
