PARIS (TVBS News) — Taiwan's table tennis women's team triumphed in the round of 16 at the Olympics on Tuesday (Aug. 6), securing a 3-0 victory over the Australian team to advance to the quarterfinals. Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜), Chen Szu-yu (陳思羽), and Chien Tung-chuan (簡彤娟) led the charge with dominant performances.

In the doubles match, Chen and Chien faced Australia's Michelle Bromley and Melissa Tapper, winning decisively with scores of 11-4, 11-3, and 11-7. Cheng then took on Australia's Jee Minhyung in the second singles match, clinching victory with scores of 11-5, 11-7, and 11-4.

 

Chen returned for the third singles match against Tapper. After splitting the first four games with scores of 6-11, 11-5, 9-11, and 11-9, Chen secured the win in the decisive fifth game with a score of 11-6.

Taiwan's women's team will face the top-seeded Chinese team in their next match on Wednesday.
