TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese weightlifter Fang Wan-ling (方莞靈) shattered two national records during the women's 49kg event at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 on Thursday (Aug. 8) where she finished sixth, marking a significant achievement in her career.

Fang lifted 86kg in the snatch and 107kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 193kg. These lifts broke the national records for the snatch and surpassed her personal best. She expressed her satisfaction, saying, "Of course, I'm satisfied with my performance. Compared to my recent sessions, this is one of my best."

After the Tokyo Olympics, Fang had considered quitting weightlifting. However, encouragement from her coach and family motivated her to continue. In April, she secured her Olympic qualification at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships, overcoming injuries to achieve her goals.

Fang had hoped to succeed in all six attempts at the Olympics, a promise she made to her mother. Although she didn't meet this goal, she remains optimistic and encourages herself to maintain her current form. She looks forward to standing on the podium at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya.

Fang's journey underscores the importance of perseverance and support from loved ones. As she sets her sights on future competitions, fans eagerly await her continued success.
