TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Bi-khim Hsiao (蕭美琴) emphasized the importance of Taiwan-U.S. cooperation in public health and medical issues during a meeting Tuesday (Aug. 20) with the Chairman of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Brad Wenstrup, and his delegation. She remarked that such collaboration enhances humanity's well-being.

Hsiao welcomed Wenstrup and his delegation to Taiwan at the Presidential Office in Taipei, expressing her pleasure at seeing him again. She highlighted the day's packed schedule, which included discussions on maintaining public health, a shared concern for both nations.

Reflecting on past experiences, Hsiao mentioned how Taiwan had learned from the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) crisis years ago. She noted that every crisis serves as a lesson to improve resilience and prevent future disasters.

Hsiao also pointed out the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on both societies, stressing the importance of mutual support among freedom-loving people during difficult times. She expressed gratitude for the cooperation with friends and partners like Wenstrup and thanked the U.S. government for prioritizing vaccine donations to Taiwan during critical times of need.
