TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) denied claims on Thursday (Aug. 29) that it made exceptions for actor Greg Hsu (許光漢) in the selection process for the substitute service roles.

The MOI's Substitute Service Training and Management Center (替代役訓練及管理中心) clarified that Hsu was not given special treatment. However, rumors suggested that the ambassador (社會役公益大使團) positions were not initially available and were created specifically for Hsu, who recently enlisted.

The center explained that selection materials for substitute service roles are provided to all recruits upon entry, allowing them to choose based on their skills and interests. The center also organizes explanatory sessions to help recruits make the most suitable choices.

The center further explained that the current selection for the ambassador group includes seven positions open to individuals born before 1993 and from 1994 to 2004.

Hsu began his training at Chengkungling military base (成功嶺營區) on Aug. 20, sparking widespread online discussions and various speculations, including claims that he was not receiving enough food during his service.

The MOI's statement aims to quell public speculation and maintain transparency in the selection process. As the controversy continues, the ministry's commitment to fairness remains a critical focus for the public and the recruits involved.
