TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Highway Bureau (公路局) announced on Monday (Sept. 16) that they have coordinated with bus operators to add extra services to meet the travel demands for the Mid-Autumn Festival on Sept. 17.

Officials expect traffic congestion on provincial highways connecting to national highways as some people may take leave to create an extended holiday.

A day earlier, buses riding on the National Expressway in western Taiwan operated 5,987 trips, transporting 116,757 passengers, an 8.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Eastern routes saw 1,581 trips, carrying 33,525 passengers, an 18.6% rise from last year.

The Highway Bureau has planned alternative routes on provincial highways. They urge drivers to follow roadside signs and use the "Happy Highway" (幸福公路) application, and police radio for congestion and travel time information.

Officials have also asked bus operators to prepare sufficient capacity and ensure the safety of personnel and vehicles during the Mid-Autumn Festival. They recommend public transportation for those traveling home.
