TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The chairman of Pegatron (和碩) expressed concerns on Monday (Dec. 2) about U.S. President-elect Trump's inconsistent policies, which he believes will only impact Taiwan's manufacturers during his four-year term. Pegatron's Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien's (童子賢) comments come as Trump's recent tariff threats on Mexican and Canadian imports have sparked global attention.

Trump proposed a 25% tariff on products from Mexico and Canada, citing a surge of people and drugs into the U.S. as the reason. Taiwanese companies like Foxconn (鴻海), Pegatron, Wistron (緯創), Quanta (廣達), Compal (仁寶), and Inventec (英業達) have factories in Mexico, raising concerns about potential impacts on the Taiwanese supply chain.

Tung, however, downplayed the long-term effects, noting the global reliance on countries like Vietnam and Mexico, which he believes even Trump cannot entirely exclude from the supply chain.

Tung highlighted India's position as the world's most populous country, underscoring its irreplaceable role in the global market. He expressed a desire for international peace, symbolized by his display of a white dove. Tung humorously remarked, "This white dove can easily be shot down by Trump," reflecting the challenges of maintaining harmony amid political tensions.
