MAJURO (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) arrived in the Republic of the Marshall Islands on Tuesday (Dec. 3), announcing an offer of preferential loans to help the nation purchase new aircraft.
Visiting the Marshall Islands for the first time as president, Lai received a warm welcome. President Hilda Heine greeted him at the airport, highlighting the Marshallese belief that "rain brings blessing," as both rain and blessings accompanied Lai's arrival.
Local children enthusiastically waved Taiwan's national flags, and overseas Taiwanese gathered at the airport to welcome him. In his address to the parliament, President Lai expressed Taiwan's readiness to provide preferential loans for purchasing new aircraft. He began with a greeting in Marshallese, demonstrating his connection to the host nation. This initiative aims to enhance the Marshall Islands' aviation services, benefiting its residents.
Beyond the announcement, Taiwan plans to assist in constructing a new government building in the Marshall Islands, further strengthening the bond between the two nations. This collaboration marks a significant step in fostering diplomatic ties and mutual support.
