Belgian startup Dermatoo highlights AI tech for wound care

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Dermatoo, a Belgian startup, captivated audiences at the Healthcare Expo Taiwan (台灣醫療科技展) on Friday (Dec. 6) with its groundbreaking app aimed at revolutionizing complex wound care management. By leveraging AI technology, the Liège-based company offers a promising solution to boost efficiency and cut costs. Engaging with hospitals and care providers, Dermatoo demonstrated its commitment to transforming wound care practices and improving patient outcomes.

Julien Delarbre, Dermatoo's Head of Technology, explained the company's mission: "Dermatoo is a company active in the wound care sector, and we have created an application and whole solution for helping professionals to manage wounds." He highlighted the platform's features, which include telemedicine capabilities and collaboration tools for experts and patients. The technology integrates 3D wound reconstruction, enabling remote diagnosis.

Delarbre further elaborated on the benefits of their solution: "If you are an expert, and you only have a picture of the wound, you can't make a very good diagnosis with that, but with a 3D view and the calibrated reconstruction of the wound, you are able to make a remote diagnosis." This advancement eliminates the need for patient or doctor travel, facilitating accurate diagnoses from afar. 

Addressing Chronic Wound Challenges
Chronic wounds often require extended care, with patients experiencing prolonged healing times. According to the CHC Montlégia Clinic in Liege, inconsistent treatment from multiple care providers can exacerbate this issue. Dermatoo's technology aims to address these challenges by providing a unified platform for wound care history and cost-efficiency calculations, ultimately decreasing care costs.
