TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ocean Affairs Council's Coast Guard Administration (海洋委員會海巡署) reported Monday (Dec. 9) that since Dec. 6, seven Chinese coast guard ships have engaged in unusual navigational harassment. These vessels have not entered Taiwan's restricted waters, but the CGA immediately deployed patrol ships to shadow each Chinese vessel, ensuring close monitoring and response.
From Dec. 6, the CGA detected abnormal movements by Chinese coast guard ships, including the Hai Jing 2901 circling the southern strait and the Hai Jing 1301 and 1302 moving south from the northeast. Three vessels lingered 50 to 60 nautical miles northeast of Green Island in eastern Taiwan.
On Monday, the CGA identified four more Chinese ships—Haijing 2203, 2302, 2304, and 2307—heading toward southwestern Taiwan. The CGA stated that these actions disrupt regional peace and stability, adding that they have coordinated with the Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) and other security agencies to ensure readiness.
The CGA added that, according to International Law and the Charter of the United Nations, China has no right to interfere with or enforce laws in Taiwan's waters, and Taiwan may counteract as necessary.
