TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) unveiled the "Guidelines to Protect the Rights of Female Foreign Workers and Their Children" (移工婦幼權益保障指引) on Monday (Jan. 6), aiming to assist migrant workers, employers, and agencies in understanding the rights related to pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare, while integrating relevant regulations and resources from various government departments.
The guidelines cover four major stages: pre-pregnancy, during pregnancy, post-delivery, and childcare, offering detailed information and protection measures to support migrant mothers. They emphasize parental leave and breastfeeding time, urging employers to provide childcare facilities and flexible work arrangements. Migrant workers can seek assistance through local consultation service centers and hotlines.
The Workforce Development Agency (勞動力發展署) highlighted the establishment of "Integrated Service Center for Migrant Women and Children" (外籍婦幼諮詢服務中心) in Taoyuan City, Changhua County, and Kaohsiung City since 2022 and 2024. These centers provide consultation services for migrant workers regarding childbirth and employment.
The MOL collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW, 衛福部), the Ministry of Education (MOE, 教育部), the National Immigration Agency (NIA, 移民署), employers, agencies, and migrant worker groups to develop the guidelines in five languages.
