TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數位發展部) announced Tuesday (Jan. 7) that it has gathered intelligence on multiple hacking incidents. The government plans to enhance cybersecurity measures to protect information and communication systems. Last week, an international hacker group launched DDoS attacks on Taiwan's government and private sectors, affecting local governments, regional airports, port authorities, and private enterprises.
The Administration for Cyber Security (資安署) reported that agencies quickly activated defense and recovery mechanisms, allowing most institutions to resume normal operations rapidly. The agency notified affected private entities through the Taiwan Computer Emergency Response Team/Coordination Center (TWCERT/CC) and initiated relevant defense and recovery procedures. The agency emphasized the importance of preparation, such as traffic cleaning, website CDN, and intrusion prevention systems (IPS), to defend against DDoS attacks.
In case of an attack, the agency recommended strengthening cybersecurity monitoring, analyzing abnormal connection IPs, promptly blocking unusual traffic, and activating traffic cleaning services or static web pages. For long-term resilience, it advised regularly reviewing response capabilities, enhancing abnormal traffic monitoring and drills, and strengthening defense strategies through joint defense efforts. The agency is also committed to sharing cyber threat intelligence with other countries via TWCERT/CC and timely notifying agencies of coordinated defense actions to maintain information and communication security.
