TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung Medical University (高醫) reported on Wednesday (Jan. 8) that Control Yuan President Chen Chu (陳菊) is in stable condition and gradually recovering after a recent health scare. Chen initially visited the hospital for a cold, which led to a routine health check revealing a 3.5 cm tumor in her right kidney. Doctors successfully removed the tumor on Dec. 21, using a Da Vinci robotic surgical system.
Chen showed promising recovery by the second-day post-surgery, moving independently and planning to leave the hospital within 3 to 5 days. However, she experienced sudden weakness in her right leg the morning before her scheduled discharge. A multidisciplinary team from the hospital quickly diagnosed a blockage in a left brain artery and administered timely treatment.
The hospital emphasized that Chen's condition is stable, and she is making progress with rehabilitation sessions arranged by the medical staff. The family expressed gratitude for public concern and requested privacy, encouraging a peaceful environment for Chen's recovery. The hospital will continue to monitor her overall health status closely.
