TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) met with a delegation from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute (RRPFI) on Thursday (Jan. 9) to express gratitude for their steadfast support of Taiwan amid China's threats and sanctions. The meeting underscored Taiwan's dedication to regional peace and democracy through the "Four Pillars of Peace" action plan.
President Lai reiterated Taiwan's commitment to safeguarding democracy and promoting global prosperity. He also extended condolences for the ongoing fires in California, expressing hope for a swift resolution and aid for those injured. President Lai emphasized the significance of the "Six Assurances and the Taiwan Relations Act," which form the bedrock of Taiwan-U.S. relations, further strengthened by the "Asia Reassurance Initiative Act" of 2018.
President Trulio, leading the RRPFI delegation, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and pride in advancing President Reagan's legacy and shared values with Taiwan. He noted President Reagan's visits to Taiwan before his presidency and the development of the Six Assurances during his administration.
