TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A powerful continental cold air mass — gripped Taiwan on Friday (Jan. 10), bringing chilly conditions across the island and the upcoming weekend, meteorologists said. The cold air mass will persist on Saturday, keeping the north, northeast, and east cold, with moisture levels remaining high. Conditions will turn drier by Sunday. Most regions will see clear to partly cloudy skies, except for brief showers in Hualien and Taitung.
A gradual warming trend will begin on Monday with temperatures rising as the cold air mass weakens. Tuesday morning will see radiative cooling effects, with the weather still being cold and dry. Most regions will have sunny to cloudy conditions, with only the eastern and southeastern parts of Taiwan experiencing sporadic rain.
Meanwhile, Wednesday and Thursday will see the northeasterly monsoon strengthen, with 12 to 20 degrees in the north and northeastern part of the country, 13 to 22 degrees in the central part, 14 to 23 degrees in the southern part, and 16 to 22 degrees in the eastern part.
