TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Department of Transportation (台北市交通局) announced on Friday (Jan. 10) that Nvidia's potential decision to establish its overseas headquarters in Nangang (南港) would have minimal impact on local road traffic. In response to the public inquiries, the department emphasized the area's reliance on rail transportation, which could alleviate concerns about congestion.
Huang Huang-jia (黃皇嘉), a department official, noted the proximity to MRT Kunyang Station (昆陽站) and the Taiwan High Speed Rail (TSHR, 高鐵) Nangang Station and Taiwan Railway Station. He explained that if most employees commute by rail, the impact on road traffic would decrease. Huang mentioned that employees from other cities primarily use the Neihu Interchange (內湖交流道), which currently experiences manageable congestion levels.
Huang highlighted that the worst-case scenario involves all employees driving, which could severely impact road traffic. He assured the department would collaborate with Nvidia throughout the construction and operational phases, proposing necessary measures and traffic maintenance plans. Despite the ongoing speculation about Nvidia's exact location, including the First Funeral Parlor (一殯), Nangang Marshalling Yard (南港調車場), and Taiwan Power Company (台電) land in Nangang, Economic Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝) dismissed all these possibilities.
