TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei City Police Department (北市警局) deployed 400 police officers at the funeral of Bamboo Union (竹聯幫) leader Huang Shao-tsen (黃少岑), also known as "Yao Yao," on Thursday (March 6) to prevent any gang-related activities.
Following Huang's death on Feb. 4, his remains were moved to the Zion Park (慈恩園生命紀念館), where a mourning hall was established. Police have enforced regulations prohibiting any gang insignia or references during the funeral. Authorities also barred participation under gang-related company names.
Since the union is reportedly Taiwan's largest gang, authorities heightened security measures at the Taipei Mortuary Services Office (臺北市懷愛館), as the event was expected to draw a significant crowd.
Taipei police intensified their crackdown on gang activities in late February, intensifying inspections and intelligence gathering. They enforced strict checks on individuals and vehicles at the funeral and nearby areas, especially against any involvement of minors or signs of criminal organization.
