HSINCHU (TVBS News) — Former Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) attended a heartfelt farewell ceremony for his father, Ko Cheng-fa (柯承發), on Monday (March 10) at the Ching Hsing Hall in Hsinchu City Funeral Parlor. The ceremony drew approximately 1,200 attendees who gathered to pay their respects to the elder Ko, who passed away at the age of 94.
Authorities at the Taipei Detention Center (台北看守所) granted Ko Wen-je permission to attend his father's funeral. The "Ching Hsing" Hall was adorned with floral tributes from notable figures, including former Presidents Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁).
Prominent Kuomintang (KMT, 國民黨) figures, such as former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) and Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), were also present to offer their condolences. Supporters of the Taiwan People's Party gathered in an orderly manner to bid farewell, reflecting the strong community support.
Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) was unable to attend the ceremony due to the custom of refraining from such events within 100 days of a parent's passing.
