TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Fubon Guardians (富邦悍將), one of Taiwan's premier baseball teams, welcomed South Korean cheerleading sensation Lee Jueun (李珠珢) to their ranks at a press conference on Thursday (March 13), marking a significant cross-cultural addition to Taiwan's professional baseball scene.
Lee catapulted to international fame last year when her dynamic strikeout dance video amassed over 100 million views on YouTube, transforming her into a social media phenomenon in South Korea. Baseball fans in Taiwan will have their first opportunity to witness her performances live when she makes her debut at Xinzhuang (新莊) stadium on April 2 and 3.
The cheerleader's journey to Taiwan wasn't impulsive but rather the culmination of a growing appreciation for the island. Following a positive experience during her visit last year, Lee signed an exclusive entertainment contract with Fubon Sports & Entertainment Co. (富邦育樂), selecting jersey number 32 for her new role. Her initial commitment includes participation in at least 15 cheering events during the first half of the baseball season.
Speaking at the press conference, Lee explained how the organization has helped alleviate the anxiety and pressure associated with working in a foreign country. The transition has been smoothed by the presence of three fellow Korean members in the Fubon Angels (富邦天使) cheerleading squad, who have provided valuable mentorship and emotional support.
Lee has embraced Taiwanese culture through its cuisine, developing a fondness for local delicacies including sandwiches, xiaolongbao (小籠包), and bubble tea. She also expressed particular appreciation for Taiwan's convenience store offerings, which have become a staple in her new daily routine.
The cheerleader noted interesting contrasts between Korean and Taiwanese cheerleading styles. According to Lee, Taiwan's approach emphasizes cute, endearing gestures, while Korean cheerleading tends to prioritize rhythmic intensity and more pronounced hand movements. Her previous experience performing in Taiwan proved transformative, helping her overcome camera shyness and develop greater confidence performing before audiences and cameras.
Despite her rising profile, Lee indicated she is currently focused on mastering her role with the Fubon Guardians and has no immediate plans to expand into other areas of the entertainment industry.
